A Lenta article reported at 6:50PM (11:50 AM Eastern Time, for the U.S.) that columns of Belarusian military equipment and soldiers are being relocated to Minsk from throughout the country.
Lenta sites reporting from Belarusian journalist Stepan Putilo, who claims that troop transport trucks with Vitebsk registrations were spotted in the capital city. This is in addition to a number of internal troops, border control officers, and paratroopers which are gathering in Minsk from around the country.
Earlier in the day, Belrausian President Alexander Lukashenko called an emergency meeting of the country’s National Security Council following the arrest of 32 Russian citizens ostensibly employed as mercenaries of Russia’s Wagner Group Private Military Company (PMC).
Minsk is undergoing a period of political instability, as mass protests erupted in adavance of Presidential Elections on August 9th. Opposition groups accuse Lukashenko’s government of sabotaging any attempts to challenge his 26-year run as President of the country.
